Concentric circles of paint surrounded by bare canvas create the image of a spinning target.  The irregular staining of an unprimed canvas produces the ‘optical’ illusion of movement.  This is caused by the paint as it is absorbed into the canvas.

Nolan leaves a large unpainted area in order to achieve maximum visual intensity.  Nolan was one of the first artists to exploit the possibilities of a naked canvas in this way.  The technique of ‘staining’ adds depth and ambiguity; the paint actually becomes part of the weave of the canvas.  In its exploitation of the flat canvas surface and in the precisely centered image, which generates no physical or emotional reverberations beyond itself,

The simple colours and geometric form of composition have been stripped of any symbolic reference or realistic subject matter.  The cool aloofness of his works and the artist lack of emotional involvement with the subject connect this style to the Post-Painterly Abstractionist movement.

Swoptic utilizes simple colours and patterns, along with interesting geometric surface forms.  These attributes are incorporated into all aspects of designing our eyewear components.  Classic, Abstractionist or Expressionist, the style is yours to create…

Swoptic’s ultimate goal is to create a new movement in eyewear artistry.  Through the art of self-expression, our customers design and create their own customized eyewear.
